About Does anyone know of an inexpensive hotel in Arlington,VA

Does anyone know of an inexpensive hotel in Arlington,VA?
I am traveling with my boyfriend to Arlington,VA in july, I have been trying to find an inexpensive hotel near everything but all seem to start at $99 p/n if anyone know of any hotel near malls, and good places to visit while there please let me know, I am willing to travel from arlington to a hotel near that city, but since I don't know the place, the less I have to move the better. Its just that my boyfriend will be staying for a few days at the hyatt arlington and I have to stay with a friend at another hotel during those days, I don't want to be so far, is the Hyatt from Crystal city or whatever really near the other Hyatt?

Answer 1 :
The Hilton Crystal city has rates @ $94/night (I quoted mid-July), so check there first. http://www.resideo.com/us/virginia/arlington/57233289.hotel Hope that helps! edited to add: the Hyatt and the Hilton are less than half a mile from each other!
Answer 2 :
There are a number of inexpensive hotels (Comfort Inn, etc.) near Iwo Jima, look for those. $99 IS a cheap hotel in the DC area already, though.
Answer 3 :
best western , days inn , try them first ...
Answer 4 :
Hyatt Regency Crystal City, in Arlington Virginia has reasonable prices. I enjoyed my stay there, very polite staff too. Umm, since i havent been to any others in arlington im not sure what else to recomend but you should take Hyatt in to consideration. Its right by DC too.
Answer 5 :
I know there's a Marriot
Answer 6 :
Cheap as in under $100 would be the comfort inn in Pentagon city and Best Western is rosslyn. Booking any of the hotels from the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton the week of will cost you $300 plus. This is a busy time as conferences, tours and other things are going on around the area. Don't get it wrong Arlington and DC are just not cheap. Check travel sites such as hotwire,, orbitz or travelocity for hot deals

About Activities to do with kids in Arlington, VA or Washington, DC

Activities to do with kids in Arlington, VA or Washington, DC?
My wife and I will be traveling with our kids, staying in Arlington, VA and would like the kids to see the sites in Washington, DC next week. What are they key things for the kids to see and do? (Ages 4 and 9). What is the best way to take public transportation from Arlington to DC? We're staying the at a hotel near Courthouse Plaza in Arlington.

Answer 1 :
I am not overly familiar with the specific area of Arlington to which you refer, but we were there with our kids 2 1/2 years ago when they were 10 and 13. The Metro is very good, so I would try to use it as much as possible. You can buy a pass for a full week. I know there is a metro stop on the blue line (I think it was) at Arlington National Cemetery, and I know there are other stops in Arlington as well. As for sites, wow, where to start? The Smithsonian is very good. There is also a Spy Museum that does have an entrance fee, but your kids will like it as they have an interactive approach to how they lead you through it. Your kids might also like the zoo which is also free. And I would recommend a tour out to Mount Vernon as well. We also rented a car one day and went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, and that was a fun one day trip. Contact your congressman and senator and see if he or she can arrange a tour of the White House. Also, a capital tour is fun. We spent eight days there and saw a lot of stuff, but could have done much much more. Good luck and have fun on your trip.
Answer 2 :
Your hotel can give you specifics for Metro connections and even offer a shuttle to some attractions. My suggestion is that you take a bus tour with the kids so they can see the sights. It's cold here right now and it could be snowing on Tuesday evening, so a nice warm bus would be a good way to check out the monuments and other attractions. You can pick out the things you want to explore more closely and board and unboard as often as you like. It is also a very good way to see the monuments and the White House and learn a bit about them. Definite must-sees besides those monuments are the Air and Space Museum, The Museum of Natural History and the National Gallery of Art. All are free of charge and very appealing to children of those ages. Be sure to visit the insect zoo.You can go on Washington Tourism.org and check out all of the attractions. No need to leave town to be fully entertained, by the way. Check out Union Station and the great hall

About what is the best way to get from Arlington Center to MIT

what is the best way to get from Arlington Center to MIT?
I would be travelling at about 7 AM with a 3 year old in tow, planning to park near technology square if driving. Any experience with busses/trains/alewife at that hour? thanks

Answer 1 :
The T is the way to go. At that time it is rush hour and parking will be near the op of the Alewife station.
Answer 2 :
You have a few options. You could take MBTA Bus 79, 350, or 351 which all run through Arlington Center on their way to the MBTA Alewife Station on the Red Line. Bus 77 goes through Arlington Center to Harvard station on the Red Line but you'd still be a couple of train stops short of your destination; I think you'd be better off just going to Alewife since it's the beginning of the line and you and your baby will easily be able to find a seat on the train. Another way would be to just drive your car to the Alewife, park there and take the train in; it's a huge facility with 2600 covered parking spots and you should be able to find plenty of parking if you arrive early enough. And if you're planning on making this trip during a weekend, even better. All-day parking costs $5.00. From Alewife, take the inbound train five stops to the Kendall/MIT stop; from there Technology Suqare and the MIT campus are a short walk. I don't recommend driving into Cambridge. Finding a parking spot around Tech. Square will be a major headache for you, and you don't need any extra stress with a 3 year-old in the backseat.
Answer 3 :
The trains and buses would be running, you could take the bus (the 77 goes past several stops, but Davis is the first one, and since the bus is slower than the train, it makes the most sense to just get off while you can. But you could also stop in Porter, or Harvard) into Davis Square, and then get right on the Red Line from Davis just a few stops to the MIT stop. . . .Driving, when you factor in traffic, would probably take the same amount of time, and you'd end up spending a good amount to park

About I am moving to Arlington, VA. By bus/metro how long does it take to get to: McLean, Alexandria, Falls Church

I am moving to Arlington, VA. By bus/metro how long does it take to get to: McLean, Alexandria, Falls Church?
I'm trying to find a job and will be using public transportation. If I'm willing to travel at most 30 minutes, what cities are possibilities?
Commuting - 2 Answers

Answer 1 :
Arlington's a big town, so it really depends on where you live in there, but here are some times starting from places in Alexandria: Alexandria (King Street Metro), on the Blue Line from Rosslyn Metro: 23 minutes McLean, on the 23A Bus from Ballston Metro: 18 minutes Falls Church (East Falls Church Metro) on the Orange Line from Rosslyn Metro: 11 Minutes The Metro really is a nice, quick, and efficient way to get around. Most places in DC itself can easily be reached in under 30 minutes from Rosslyn.
Answer 2 :
Assuming you're in central Arlington, you can get to any of those general locations within 30 minutes using either Metrorail or Metrobus. But, as Tom said above, it really depends upon where in Arlington you'll be living, and where in those other communities you'll be working...

About I'm travelling US-50W to I-395 through DC to Arlington, VA. What time does rush hour get bad in the afternoon

I'm travelling US-50W to I-395 through DC to Arlington, VA. What time does rush hour get bad in the afternoon?
I'm coming from New England to the area, so I don't know it very well. I'd like to know what time I have to start worrying about traffic and even better, how long should I expect the delay to be? Lastly, are there any alternate routes?
Washington, D.C. - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
By 4:30 there is usually a lot of traffic and then by 5:30 it's bumper to bumper until around 7:30. Since it is the summer, it may not be as bad because a lot of people are on vacation but just to be safe I wouldn't go out on 395 between 4-8
Answer 2 :
An alternate and more scenic route would be the Baltimore/Washington Parkway. Take it down to 295, then 295 north back into the city to 395. Traffic will be bad anywhere in DC between 4PM and 6:30ish, but not unbearable. You may be able to take advantage of HOV on 395 if you have other passengers

About DC metra train route out to Arlington

DC metra train route out to Arlington?
I will be traveling to Arlington, VA and I'm wondering if the DC train routes go out that far? My family and I will be traveling into DC and we really don't want to drive if we don't have to. We're attending a function at Ft. Myer. Where is the closet station to that?
Washington, D.C. - 5 Answers

Answer 1 :
Virginia is served by the Orange, Blue and Yellow lines; check out the Metrorail routes map below. Use the Trip Planner on the main WMATA page to calculate which Metro station is closest to your starting point and final destination.
Answer 2 :
Arlington isn't far at all! It's the next city over the bridge. How you will get there on Metro depends on where exactly you wish to go in Arlington. If you have the address, check out the trip planner on http://wmata.com. You may have to do a mix of busses and subway but if you're going near Crystal City, Pentagon City, or Ballston Commons the Orange Line train will take you there!
Answer 3 :
Metro does go into Arlington, Virginia, as it is just across the river from DC. In fact, until 1846, what is now Arlington and Alexandria was part of Washington, DC. Anyway, go to www.wmata.com for information.
Answer 4 :
I think the station closest is either Pentagon or Arlington Cemetery. Im leaning more towards Pentagon. Of course trains run into Arlington, its the city over the bridge from DC. It depends on where you need to go. Orange line runs through North Arlington like Clarendon, Rosslyn, Ballston. Blue line runs through Rossly as well, Arlington Cemetery, Pentagon, Crystal City (South Arlington). I would take train to Pentagon and then the 16 buses. Not sure which letter but it goes up Columbia Pike where Ft. Myer is. It also depends through which gate you will be going through at the base. Its a short bus ride from Pentagon like no more than 10 minutes.
Answer 5 :
Orange and blue lines go to Arlington, VA. Also the airport (Reagan) can be reached by the yellow line and it's in Arlington, VA.

How do I travel with my Tortoise?
Hi I'm Charlotte and tomorrow I'm going on a plane ride to Arlington. My mom can't take care of Franklin while I'm gone so we both decided that just taking him would be my best option, But I'm not really sure how to do that. Please help Thanks (:

Answer 1 :
That's a hard one. Well your best options I think would be to ask a trusted neighbor or nearby animal shelter if they can take him. But if you absolutely need to take him on the plane, ask the airline if they can take care of your turtle.I believe a few airlines have areas to keep pets while you are away. I hope I helped

You are in luck! There is no HOV on I-66 traveling west in the morning, and east in the evening. HOV is only when traveling east in the morning and west in the evening, consistent with the flow of most traffic to and from DC

About What city or town is a mid point between Arlington, VA and Springfield, VA

What city or town is a mid point between Arlington, VA and Springfield, VA?
I am looking to move soon to Springfield, and I would like to know where is the best place to move to. I want to stay close to the DC city limit, but enjoy suburban living. Give me all the details: good places, bad places. It would also be appreciated if travel times to Springfield could be given. I will be working in Springfield. I prefer a short commute. I would be arriving in Springfield around 7 am and leave around 4pm.
Washington, D.C. - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Midpoint - Annandale, Falls Church, Alexandria...I would avoid (too busy and overcrowded). Oakton, Vienna, or Fairfax, are nice areas about 20 mins from Springfield. If you have no problem with long commutes, Ashburn is the best place I ever lived in VA, but it's about 45 mins away from Springfield.
Answer 2 :
As you might know, living in Arlington has many convenient places to live say if you worked in DC. If you were to move farther out toward Springfield then ALEXANDRIA where I work is the midpoint location. If convenience is a priority like being within short distance of a Metrorail station (i) then around Landmark or Kingstowne in Alexandria are 2 places to consider as they are within short distance of the VAN DORNE Metro Station on the Blue and Yellow Lines. (ii) Also Kingstowne and Franconia are within short distance of the next & last Blue & Yellow Metrorail station near SPRINGFIELD MALL. FYI Route 644 intersects I-395 Shirley Highway and going east becomes Franconia Road around Springfield Mall and this is where KINGSTOWNE (fairly new and definitely a good choice is located). Going west at I-395 along Old Keene Mill Road leads to West Springfield is also an option but takes you farther away from Metrorail stations though they do have commuter lots as well as Slug Lines. Note there are other middle point locations bec 3 other heavily traveled alternate commuter routes between DC and Springfield are (i) Columbia Pike that runs inside from Annandale and travels up to the Pentagon; (ii) Beauregard Street (runs parallel to I-395) that starts on the other side of Landmark in the vicinity of Lincolnia and keeps going past Mark Radison/Hilton Hotel at Seminary Road then past NVCC Allexandria and (iii) North Van Dorn Street (aso parallel to I-395) which starts out near Kingstowne and Edison HS and runs past Landmark Mall and up to Seminary Road near Alexandria Hospital). BTW you did not make it clear where you worked if it was DC or going to be Springfield VA bec travel times vary according to time of day but without commuter traffic, it takes like 20 minutes from Springfield, Franconia, Kingstowne, West Springfield to Arlington or 14th Street Bridge. But add commuter traffic early in the AM on a weekday going into DC is 30 to 45 minutes bec it is a tough 5 or 10 miles from Landmark. If you were going in the opposite direction say working in Springfield or at Fort Belvoir, the commute would be faster and less traffic. Hope the Above Info Helps!
Answer 3 :
Amazing , i'll bet you know the spot . I'd like to see the old chapel.
Answer 4 :
Blue line is 28 minutes are so from Rosslyn to Springfield. This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America, currently in Pattaya, Thailand. Please pick an Best Answer, even if it is not mine
